②The Index Number represents the lenses' thickness. If the index number is higher, then the lens is thinner. The maximum index number is 1.74. This is nearly 50% thinner than regular plastic lenses. Lately, Aspheric lenses are more popular in higher index ratings. ③It is important to consider the relationship between prescription, frames and lens indexing. If your prescription is NOT too strong, you may not need to use the thinnest lens available. It is reasonable to expect a person with a lower indexing ratio to select a lower priced lens. If you select a rimless frame, it is important, however, to select a strong lens.
